A GRATITUDE MADE PERFECT
📖 “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and let all that is within me bless His holy name.”
Psalm 103:1
In this verse, King David shows us—almost as if speaking to himself—how he commanded his soul and his entire being to bless and praise the Lord.
But you, how many times a day do you bless and praise the Lord intentionally?
Among believers, it is common to hear expressions like “God bless you” or “Praise the Lord” when we receive good news, and that is good. However, is our soul truly aligned with everything we are in order to praise the Lord?
In the original Hebrew, the expressions “my soul” and “all that is within me” point to something profound:
“My soul” refers to life itself—the breath within us, our vitality.
“All that is within me” refers to absolutely everything inside and outside of us: our organs, our body, eyes, mouth, mind, heart… nothing is left out.
The intensity of the original language shows that David did not want to leave any part of himself outside of this praise. In other words, blessing and praising God is an act of total surrender. David understood our sinful nature, which constantly pushes us to sin through thoughts, desires, emotions, and even through our bodies: lust, envy, anger, bitterness, bad habits, a contaminated heart, and actions that separate us from God.
How can we praise a Holy God with an unclean heart and life?
This is why we must learn to praise the Lord intentionally, giving Him all that we are. It may seem difficult, which is why David commanded his soul and his whole being to bless the Lord—not only with words, but also through actions.
May you today bless the Lord with the same deep intentionality that David had. The first step is to make things right with God. Ask Him for forgiveness, because surely you have failed, and it is not right to speak His name without first repenting. God is faithful and just to forgive and restore us.
Seek for your entire being—your mind, heart, thoughts, and body—to align with His holiness and His will.
Show your gratitude not only through words, but with a sincere heart that God knows and recognizes as one that strives to please Him. Then you will be able to bless His name and praise Him with all your being.
There is no more beautiful way to express gratitude to God than with genuine worship from a heart fully surrendered to Him.
đź’Ż Today we pray:
“Lord, I ask Your forgiveness for everything I have done with my body and with my mouth that contaminates me and separates me from You. Forgive my thoughts and my wrong desires. Cleanse me, purify me, sanctify me, and give me a new heart to worship You with clean hands.
I want to bless Your name with all the intentions of my being, because only You are Holy and worthy of all praise and all worship.
Today I surrender before You, and I command my soul and all my being to worship You and bless You as You deserve.
In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.”
Have a very blessed day!
