With You
(Joshua 2:1–24)
When the Way Forward Looks Impossible
The Israelites stood before the Jordan River—raging, swollen, and impossible to cross. God had promised the land, but now they faced an obstacle too great for their strength. It’s often in those moments, when faith meets the flood, that God reveals His power most clearly. He doesn’t always remove the river; sometimes He calls us to step into it. The priests carrying the ark had to trust that the waters would part only after they took the first step. Faith isn’t waiting for certainty—it’s walking in obedience when the outcome is still hidden.
God’s Presence in the Middle
When the priests stepped into the water, God stopped the flow of the Jordan upstream, and the people crossed on dry ground. But the ark of the covenant didn’t stay on the shore—it rested in the middle of the river until everyone had crossed. That’s where God’s presence always meets us—right in the middle of what feels overwhelming. When the flood surrounds you, when life feels unstable and uncertain, God stands steady. His presence doesn’t retreat when the waters rise; it holds firm until His people safely reach the other side.
Faith that Stands Firm
Faith doesn’t mean avoiding the deep waters; it means standing firm in them, trusting the One who commands them. The priests didn’t rush ahead or panic when the waters stopped—they waited until every person had crossed. That’s a picture of endurance, the kind of faith that holds fast until the work is complete. Maybe God is calling you to stand in the middle for someone else—to pray, to serve, to wait faithfully while others cross. Stand firm. The same God who parted the Jordan for Israel is still parting impossible waters today.
